National Charter School Dissemination Grant

FACSA received a federal National Charter School Dissemination Grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Charter School Program, which funds the Tri-State Alliance to Improve District-Led Charter Authorizing. This project supports FACSA as well as partner organizations in California and Colorado.

This project supports the improvement of the practices of all authorizers, including small and rural authorizers, so outcomes improve and expand quality choices for all families and students. Resulting from this alliance will be the creation and dissemination of replicable best-practice resources to support effective authorizing and charter school oversight by school districts, including small/rural authorizers. This goal emphasizes peer-to-peer efforts to improve professional practice through state-based work that leverages nationally-recognized tools and procedures.

The Tri-State Alliance works to improve the practices of all authorizers, including small and rural authorizers as well as those that oversee charter schools with chronic performance challenges, to improve outcomes for students. The three state associations will use this grant to create and disseminate resources that help authorizers implement best practices. This grant, and all FACSA work, emphasize peer-to-peer efforts to improve professional practice that reflects the state context and that leverages nationally-recognized tools and procedures.

Tri-State Alliance to Improve District-Led Charter Authorizing

The Four Goals of the National Charter School Dissemination Grant:

  •  Goal 1: Improve authorizer practices by developing model materials that reflect best practices in charter school authorizing and providing professional development and technical assistance to authorizers;
  • Goal 2: Improve access, services, and outcomes for disadvantaged students in charter schools, including students with disabilities and English language learners by helping charter schools and districts adopt improved practices; and
  • Goal 3: Engage and provide support to more district authorizers, ultimately supporting all authorizing districts, including small and rural districts, districts that oversee small numbers of charter schools, and those overseeing charter schools with problems in performance or compliance; and
  • Goal 4: Support states outside the Tri-State Alliance dissemination grant, especially states where districts are the predominant authorizers, to advance similar goals by helping authorizer work together.
