NN4DA Webinar on State Policy Trends, Hosted by CACSA
February 17, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
The National Network for District Authorizing (NN4DA) will be presenting a webinar on trends in state charter school policy change. The webinar is on Thursday, February 17, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, Pacific Time. Representatives from NN4DA members in California, Colorado, and Florida will provide an overview of major changes that have been recently enacted or proposed. The presenters and participants will discuss the implications of these policy changes for authorizers and charter schools, and the potential to help or hurt efforts to implement best practices. Experts in state and national trends will discuss how ideas floated and enacted in one state may spread to other locations. Policy issues that will be discussed include:
- Changes to the standards of charter approvals and renewals;
- Adding state authorizers and related efforts to constrain district decision-making authority;
- Authorizer evaluations;
- Changes to admissions processes and the legal structure controlling services for students with disabilities;
- Evolving accountability systems that affect how districts hold charter schools accountable; and
- Transitions in chartering of virtual schools and other forms of remote instruction.
