Authorizer Resources
These resources were amended and published as part of the National Dissemination Grant goals.
Annual Opening Checklist
The Annual Opening Checklist was updated in collaboration with a working group of Sponsors and Authorizers to ensure that all relevant activities are addressed prior to the start of a new school year. This document is intended to serve as a guide or supplement to existing templates, allowing for flexibility to meet the specific needs of each authorizing entity.
Charter School Website Audit
The website audit checklist offers authorizing sponsors a detailed list of action items to verify that charter schools provide evidence of meeting website requirements in compliance with Florida law.
ESE Capacity Interview Toolkit
This guidance tool was recently amended to use as a supplemental resource to design interview probes related to the provision of exceptional student education services (ESE) and programming to ensure academic success will be met.
Florida Charter School Contract Negotiations
This updated presentation re-examines the understanding of district considerations when negotiating more specific contract language, and how the requirements support the needs of the charter school.
Annual Report Template
Annual reporting is a best practice in charter school authorizing, promoting transparency and accountability. According to NACSA, quality authorizers evaluate each school’s performance and compliance annually and communicate results to school leadership. FACSA supports this practice by providing shared tools and resources to help Florida authorizers drive continuous improvement and student success.
Updated FACSA Renewal Package
WestEd partnered with the Florida Association of Charter School Authorizers (FACSA) to develop the Charter School Renewal Package. Recently updated to align with Florida law and best practices, this resource provides guidance, tools, and examples to help authorizers successfully carry out charter school renewals.
Updated Authorizers Guide to Year Zero
The Year Zero Guide provides district authorizers with practical checklists and resources to navigate the planning year of a new charter school—from approval through the first day of classes. Developed in collaboration with FACSA members, the guide highlights essential activities required by Florida law and the Florida Standard Charter Contract, and includes sample documents, timelines, and tasks from Florida districts. It is a resource to support and strengthen authorizing practices and should not be considered legal advice.
